    Developed by renowned restorer and finisher Jeff Jewitt, the TransTint line of dyes is more versatile than any we’ve ever seen! TransTint dyes, like this dark vintage maple, can be mixed with water for an economical, nonflammable stain or with alcohol for a fast drying, non-grain raising stain. For use as a toner or “shader,” dyes can be added directly to water-based finishes and solvents to create a perfect match for touch-ups or a unique, customized finish. A 2 oz. bottle yields about 2 quarts of dye-stain. Can even be added to: shellac, catalyzed lacquer and varnish, water-based lacquer and polyurethane finishes. Not for exterior use.

      the best stain i have ever used .

      I use it on figured wood and on other materials. I think it's great I can add it to the finish.

      Worked Well

      I used this dye 1st and then used oil based stain to fill in the grain of some curly red oak. It worked great. Lots of color w/o obscuring the wood.

      unsatisfactory

      I used this product on new, clear white maple. The results were totally unlike the picture. It was also very blotchy. I had to use another stain over it, which did actualy produce a very nice effect. This product did not do what I thought it would do, and I would not buy it again. As a matter of fact, I have lots left over.
