      Belts are the weak link

Expensive system is best designed for honing not sharpening, if your tools are off by much as they will be going from other systems to this one you'll wear the belts out fast and they are expensive to keep replacing. Took me over and hour to resharpen my 3 Sorby skews(1/2",3/4",1")that were off by 5 degrees according to this system and the 3 belts it came with became useless after only 15 minutes. Stick with 8" CBN wheels, they don't wear out and give a better edge.

      Great Sharpening System

This machine has been eating me up for the last 2 weeks. I kept saying that it's just a belt sander! the most expensive one that I have ever seen! The more I looked at it I came to the conclusion that you are really buying the "sharpening system", not a belt sander. I received it yesterday and used it as soon as I got it out of the box. I've been a turner for 15 years I have always struggled with sharpening. This unit is GREAT to work with. It is easy to use to produce excellent results on the tools. Shearing cuts are heads above what I use to get on the old wet stone.

this is the best truning tool sharping

is does not get any better than this unit, it's a big buck item, but well worth it. I have tried them all and NOTHING works better than this unit. It's easy and fast, belt change is so easy, and what a great edge I get, it's been a long time and my tools where in bad shape, after this I feel like a pro!

A Must Have For Serious Woodworkers

The truly remarkable feature of the ProEdge is the indexing tool rest. After you have normalized all your edge tools to fit one of the preset angles (a very fast and painless procedure, BTW), it takes about ten seconds to adjust the rest to the angle you want. This means you aren't wasting time fussing with angle gauges or finicky tool rests, and you aren't wasting precious steel by free handing your grinds. Changing grits (belts) is equally quick if you leave the side cover off, and unlike your belt sander you probably won't need to adjust the tracking. The tool itself is very solidly built and you get the impression it will last a lifetime. This goes for the accessories, too. I got the short tool rest for my older chisels, and the tip holder and long grind jig for some turning tools. Everything works as it should. About the belts, the aluminum oxide doesn't hold up that well sharpening high speed steel. If you're getting the ProEdge to sharpen lathe tools, you should invest in the ceramic belts. The 600 grit Trizact is amazing, creating an edge almost as good as my best honing stones. It leaves almost no burr and stays on the machine most of the time to handle touch-ups. This one belt has also informally put me in the kitchen knife sharpening business. They're very easy to do freehand and there is no oil or water to wipe off. Unfortunately the ProEdge won't replace all your other sharpening tools. You'll still need a good stone for honing your paring chisels and a low-speed bench grinder for drill bits. IMHO, the side of a Tormek wheel is still the quickest tool for flattening the backs of new tools. That said, most of my other sharpening tools sit idly by while the ProEdge has confidently taken center stage. I really like it!

      A Godsend to turners.

The best sharpening system available. I've tried all the others. Nothing can begin to compare with the ProEdge.. You'll get perfectly sharpened tools fast.

Caused me to use up a lot of wood

The Sorby Pro-Edge system caused me to use up a lot of wood once I got it......because I just couldn't stop turning things; it was so much fun having sharp consistant tools :D I have a WorkSharp 3000 that I have used for chisels and knives and I love it. It just didn't work for turning tools. I looked at all the grinder based systems, but then I saw the Sorby system demonstration video. It's expensive but well worth the cost. The only thing I wasn't happy about is that the tool guides that come with it were poorly finished and I had to do some filing for them to ride in the guide slot without binding. overall - a great addition to any turning shop

You get what you pay for in life.

I can get GREAT edges with no experience in sharpening, or in this specific machine. Takes the sharpness of your tools out of consideration when initially deciding to get into lathe working.

      The best on the market

It is a little on the expensive side, but when all is said and done, it is money well spent. I used the wolverine system before buying this and as nice as that was, there is no comparison..This is definately the better option

      Fine Quality Sharpening System

While doing a skew the motor got in the way of the handle while sharpening. It's heavy and easy to adjust any angle on any blade. Changing the belts are a breeze. The construction is top quality. Nothing cheap about this unit. Well worth the price. This is not a honing, but a sharpening machine.
