Worth Every Penny
If your like me you have had screw down holdfasts that don't hold fast at all. A hold fast that doesn't hold the work firmly is IMO dangerous not only to your work but to your hands as well. Having had some real loser holdfasts over the years that let the work skitter around I always dreamt of a good screw down holdfast that would actually work. So when I came across the Sjoberg Scandi it really caught my attention. The Scandi looked like a winner – heavy solid steel rod (as opposed to the hollow tube type) deep machined grooves on the dog hole ends, large handle driving a heavy threaded screw and large clamp pad. The Scandi is not cheap at at $64.00 a piece, but its worth every penny. This is a real professional-grade hold fast and it clamps work down firmly with real force. Its in a whole different league from the hollow tube toys that are commonly sold. The Scandi is for the vast majority of Benches the have 3/4" dog holes. Do not confuse the Scandi with the Elite which is the Sjoberg 1" version for those rare benches with 1" dog holes. The Scandi is far and away the best holdfast I have ever seen. I just ordered a second one from Woodcraft.
