Moku hanga is a type of relief printing that is the oldest and most basic of printmaking techniques. In order to create a print, the artist draws an image on a block of wood. Once that is accomplished, a hangi-to or carving knife is used to cut out the lines. The process continues by removing excess wood, using successively smaller knives and gouges, leaving the drawing standing. This 12-piece set includes a wide range of knives and gouges, each one made by the traditional method of laminating steel and wrought iron together. These tools can easily be honed with waterstones and slips.
