Better than expected
I was skeptical because of the reasonable price. I purchased the unit with the 3.5" post and it works great on my Jet 1442 lathe. The unit is strong and easy to use. By reversing the "S" inside and outside cuts are easier.

good value
I had bought this rest to use with my shopsmith when I first started turning bowls. Later I bought a used Nova 3000. It had a nice bowl rest and I kind of forgot the "S" Woodcraft rest but I didn't completly. Sometimes on larger, deeper bowls I would remember how well the "S" worked on the shopsmith. Recently, I dug it out and realized I could get a bigger post and be back in business. You can change the post size which made it a great value for me since I only had to buy the post to make it work on my Nova.

Wrong curl and no set screw!
The S curve on this thing is flipped the wrong way from what I would expect to be able to use for inboard bowl turning... It is instead designed like an outboard curl rest! It would have been nicer if it could somehow be flipped over, but since it cannot, this turned out to be a waste of money for me. Even if you like the curve, there is no set screw to lock it on the post. When pushing into the thing, I have had the rest start to turn and unscrew from the post. Very frustrating and potentially dangerous. Tighten this thing very well and beware...

ok - but get all the parts
you need the post (1/2") as it does not come with the order and that is not clear in the online posting for this item.

not for small projects
too large for most of what I do at present. will have to wait for a bigger lathe
