When you need it . . .
I purchased this plane to assist with a project that required fitting 32 tenons into mortises. I had Woodcraft to sharpen the blade to save me time when it arrived. They did a great job. The tool looks and works great. Although it is very much a specialty tool, I would not want to be without it for future projects requiring fitting tenons to mortises. I have also found a few other uses and am sure that over time, I will find more. I would purchase it again without hesitation. If you have several projects requiring fitting tenons, I recommend you give this tool consideration and a place in your tool collection.
Waste of time and money
The sole and sides are not square. The slot in the blade adjustment screw was poorly machined and is nearly impossible to tighten. I wish I had researched this plane before purchasing, turns out people have been complaining about the same poor workmanship as far back as 2004 and Stanley continues to make the same mistakes. Do not assume that for exorbitant price you are buying a quality tool.
I sent it back!
Stanly usually makes very fine tools but this one must have been over looked by quality control as the threads on the blade adjustment screw were dinged and it looked to be slightly bent make blade adjustment difficult. I am a retired tool maker for Ford Motor Co. 30 years so I know what I am talking about. I didn't want to take a chance on just replacing it.
The plane iron is of such low quality that it does not take an edge.
I needed something to clean and fit some fairly long tenons. After a brief blade touch-up, this plane did a great job. They didn't have the 92 in stock, so I bought the 93. I'm very glad that I did, and believe that the 92 would be too small in my hand for this particular task.
I would buy this plane again
First, your staff are all very professional and courteous. I haven't checked out any of the other places on like because I like Woodcraft better. The plane handles well and has a good feel and weight. Unlike some other planes that I've used in the past it cuts well. Some chatter but not bad. The weight of the body is good and prevents wandering on difficult surfaces such as over knots and twists in the wood. I would buy one again if needed. It wasn't the one that I wanted but I am pleased with it anyway. The one that I wanted was out of stock and I needed it as soon as possible. Thank you. Ronald Smith PS: I need a new catalog. My catalog dates to January 09. Thanks
