The Recipe Box (And How To Make It!) – Part 1: The Initial Design & Build
Christmastime is one of those perfect times of the year to make someone a special handmade gift. So I took to the shop after Thanksgiving, stepping away from my lathe and decided to do something different. With my daughter Maddy’s growing interest in baking, I decided to make her a heirloom Recipe Box as a Christmas gift. I purchased a Bubinga board about 6 ft.in length x 11″ wide x 3/4″ thick from Woodcraft. It had such beautiful figured grain and sort of a pink-brown color to it, perfect for my 16 year old. It has been a number of years (about 35!) since I’ve done any flat work, back in my Boardman High School days in Ohio, learning under the tutelage of Mr. Haug, my woodshop instructor.

Unfortuantely, not rugged enough
Two issues: One end of the ruler is consistently out of square (defect in the tensioner groove). Tensioner is weak. Like another, I had it break when it fell off of my saw top. Free replacement The second tensioner nut striped. This one cost me. The third tensioner doesn't hold tight enough. Guess I will be saving my pennies for a better unit.

use this product in my shop building furniture and on the job.

I won't buy this product again..
I bought both the 6 and thee 4 inch Pinnacle double squares and have been very disappointed with the screw locking mechanism on both. You have to apply a LOT of torque pressure to get them to lock tightly. I would not purchase any other Pinnacle products.

Awesome from the start
This is a real nice compact double square. Very accurate than didn't cost as much as a Starrett.

Very accurate - but don't drop it!
As accurate as any woodworker could/should expect to need for measuring/squaring during shop projects. Excellent product. If it has a weak ness, it would be the tensioner. Mine fell to the floor (router vibration) and landed on one edge causing the tab that holds the rule in place to snap. Hopefully, I can order a replacement part. Otherwise a fantastic product.

It is my "Go To" square when working on smaller projects.

Do like it
Excellent tool. Just the right size for my apron. I don't have to look around for my combination square as the double square is always in my pocket. I have checked it against my engineering square and it has always has been true to this point.

Good product except it's not stainless
It's great for working with small parts in my woodworking shop. The only down side is that it's not stainless steel as the catalog suggested. I work in a salt air environment.
