Details

Beveled Edge Chisels from pfeil are crafted using the same technology and attention to detail that have made pfeil carving tools famous the world over. Pfeil uses only the finest Swiss alloy tool steel. Blades are heat treated individually, using the latest technology, and are expertly ground on all sides with a 25° main bevel on the cutting edge. Elm handles were chosen for beauty and feature an octagonal and slightly ovoid shape for improved control and comfort. However, there is something different about these Beveled Edge Chisels! The side bevel is swept back towards the centerline as opposed to being parallel. This design permits the blade being used in some pretty tight places, such as cleaning up dovetails, plus we think it just plain looks good while also being functional. This marriage of Old-World craftsmanship and modern technology, plus the legendary Swiss attention to detail, may have created the world’s best bench chisel. Set includes the following: 6mm (1/4"), 10mm (3/8"), 12mm (1/2"), 16mm (5/8"), 19mm (3/4") and 26mm (1") chisels and a tool roll.
Overall lengths are about 9-1/4" to 10-1/4", blade lengths 3-1/4" to 3-1/2"
Blades crafted from Swiss alloy tool steel
Octagonal handles of European Elm
Tool roll included
Swiss made
Finely ground and polished

    Solid alternative

I have this set plus a few more sizes. Love them, especially the shape of the handles. Do they stay sharp as long as PMV-11 blades or come with perfectly flat backs? No. But they are a very reasonably priced alternative to LN and Veritas chisels, which are about $100 a piece right now. Another reviewer said the backs were way out of flat, but that was not true for me. Didn’t take long to flatten them at all, especially compared to my previous Two Cherries chisels. Those were all over the place. I will say one peculiar thing about them is a couple of the chisels dulled very quickly the first time I used them. But hone again and then they stay sharp for much longer with each sharpening after that. I would compare these to Ashley Isles chisels in terms of fit and finish (I have there butt chisels). Not super fancy, but very well made.

    Not flat

The backs of tjese chisels are not flat on the worst kind of way. It's almost as if they put a back bevel on them at the bactory. Not worth the time it takes to flatten them.
