Great idea and will work but there are issues

I had a customer request a marker armor and wanted it even with all of the 1-star reviews saying that the markers dry out too quickly. I made it and after a month of use the customer reports that it is a beloved piece of equipment and the marker that was placed in it is still going strong. I have now made a couple of these and this is what you need to do to make a successful Marker Armor. 1 - You need a large blank. I used two 3/4" blanks and wished I was using 7/8" or a full 1" but the 3/4" will work if you are very, very centered. 2 - The parts are too loose. When you go to assemble the kit, you can finger press the parts and pull them back out. I hate that! I have made many hundreds of pens and I prefer to not use glue to secure parts but in this case it is a must. I used thick CA and made sure it went around each part fully so as to keep air from getting in. 3 - The cap has a raw, exposed end that butts up to the center band. Your work needs to be nice and clean because the edge and brass tube will show when the cap is removed. You also need to make sure you have a very well trimmed end. It needs to be very flat so it sits perfectly against the center band when closed or air will get in. 4 - Make sure when you insert the white piece into the cap that it is screwed securely in place or you will not get a nice fit against the center band. Make any necessary adjustment so that you get a click when you close the pen. If the parts actually fit together like they should (not so loose) and if there was something that pressed into and covered the now raw edge of the cap I would give this a much higher review. My customer loves them and has asked for more. That earns it the stars that I gave it. I wish I could post pictures to show the ones that were made. Take your time and make sure to seal up each part to keep air from getting in and you may find this to be a nice gift. My customer ordered this plus a matching pen to give to a teacher. It was a neat set.

I do not recommend this product

This is a great idea but the marker dries out way to fast.. Fix the problem and I will try again.

    Good idea- bad function

Made a beautiful looking one, but the marker dries out quickly which makes it basically worthless. IF it is designed to work, I will purchase more, but not until then.

Great idea but markers dry up.

We use a lot of Sharpies in our daily hobbies/business and and I thought this item would make the marker clutter a little more eye appealing.... and it does. But the seal on the tip isn't good enough to keep the markers from drying up.

    Allows Markers to Dry Up

Great idea but it just does not seal the marker tips and allows them to dry up in a short period of time. I loved the idea and made two of them, one for a fine marker and other for an extra fine marker. Both markers dried up in a short period of time with the tops properly closed. If this issue were resolved, I would buy and make more of them. One suggestion - maybe a plastic ring could be provided that pressed in under the clip/finial to show color and marker size. Several should be provided in common colors (black, blue, red, green for example) be so designed as to show tip size. Who wants to pull the caps off to see which marker you have. This is the first Woodcraft kit I have ever bought that has been such a failure.
