Update 7.3.19 - Not so impressed now.

Okay, after the first glowing review, I ordered 6 more of these kits. I turned the first one just this morning. Everything looked great until the assembly. I didn't need to use anything more than my fingers to press things together. EVERY PART fit loose, some to the point they would fall out when tipped up. Not so impressed with them this time. I still love the look of the pen, but I shouldn't need to glue the press fit parts together. It will be interesting to see if this review makes it to the website. I'd be willing to bet that it won't.

    Beautiful !

I was a little hesitant to order this kit after reading another review that mentioned things not fitting, etc. After messaging customer service, I was assured that any issues that there may have been were no longer an issue. I went ahead and ordered a couple just to try. I ordered the chrome kits and coupled them with Zircote blanks and CA finish. I love the contrast and there really weren't any issues with the parts fitting. One nib seemed a little loose, so I dabbed a little CA on it and it seems fine. I had knee surgery last week and since I can't keep every pen I turn, (I'm not planning on doing any shows either) I decided to give a pen to the Dr. that did the surgery. I took four different pens in to my wife and asked her to choose one - She chose the Hart Double Twist ! I'm online now ordering more kits. They're fatter than a slimline, but not so fat as most Cigar pens.

    Parts don't fit

I've made two of these pens and had problems with the cap and twist mechanism being too small for the tube. I don't have to "press" them into the tube ends, they just go in by hand pushing them in. Consequently, they don't stay. The first pen I ended up gluing the parts to the turned blank (with the tube in it). The second pen was the same, but this one I couldn't get the pen to emerge from the nib. Thankfully, I hadn't glued anything yet. I'll see if my expert at the local Woodcraft store can show me what I'm doing wrong.

    One of the Best Pens

I have purchased over 40 of this style and I find it a perfect compromise between a nice fitting, lightweight pen and the larger "cigar" pens. The double twist makes it very unique for extending the ink point. The tube tolerances are tight so make sure you're cutting (milling) the wood blanks down to original tube length.

    Nice size and popular pen

I find this pen to be a perfect size and weight and have sold several because of this. Careful assembly of the upper body is critical. This has been discussed at length on penmaker forums. When assembled properly, this pen has a very smooth twist mechanism. I don't particularly care for the black enameled centerband, but that hasn't stopped it from selling. I would definitely upgrade the refill.
