8” Bowl and German Red Pitch, Repousse Supplies are Silversmiths first choice for pitch. The German Red Pitch because it is less brittle than black pitch and has a higher plasticity at lower temperatures. It is less toxic and easier to use then black pitch and yields better results. Red Pitch melts at around 110 degrees F, all you need is a hot air gun to melt the small pieces, or you can use a pitch bowl and place the bowl in a 300 degree F oven.
Avoid boiling the pitch, wear eye protection and long sleeves when handling. Hot Pitch can cause severe burns.
Red Pitch is provided in an aluminum foil tub or plastic bag and may already be broken into smaller pieces. This is normal due to it will need broken into small pieces for melting. One loaf of Pitch will not fill the included cast iron pitch bowl, it allows 1/4” clearance to allow bowl to be tilted.
