Gel stains are the best!
I have used this on refinishing projects as well as new projects. It fills the grain on the first coat and if a second coat is used, it smoothis out the surface as it has polimers in it. If you wipe on a poly coat such as a wipe on poly, it turns out beautiful.

Great results
The product was used on a European beech file cabinet built with solid beech and beech veneer to match a european design (Denmark) office furniture suite we had purchased in 2002. The color was recommended by the Tampa Woodcraft store employees. The match was perfect. I used three coats without a top coat. Looks and feels great.
