Ebony, Brazilian (Swartzia panacoco) is a hard and durable wood from South America. Heartwood ranges from olive brown to almost black, with possible light or dark markings that are sharply separated by sapwood that will be lighter and yellow in appearance. The grain is almost always straight but can have irregular patterns. Wood texture is usually fine and uniform, machines and turns well. Due to the high oil content material can be brought to a polished, marble-like finish.

Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.
Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, while the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.
Carving and Turning Blocks. Blocks are sawn to +/- 1/4" of size listed.
