Knife1

From cutting and marking in the shop, to hunting and camping, to preparing a simple meal, a good knife is indispensable. Mass-produced knives can be found for every budget and use. But custom knives, which are often far more attractive, tend to get expensive very quickly.

Of course, the ultimate custom knife would include a hand-forged and hand-sharpened blade. If you’re not up for the expense and dirty work of such an endeavor, you can still experience the pride of a well-crafted and functional addition to your tool collection. All you need is a knife kit.

    Plated Blade

I picked this kit up at a clearance sale at my local woodcraft. Looked good in the pack and went together fine. I used my own Pins and finished the build. As I was shaping the handle I came across the fact that this blade is plated. Don't know if it is just the spine of the tang or the whole blade but sadly dissapointed.

    Great little project

I bought several of these as gifts. I liked it so much I built one for my self. I do not use any of the rivets supplied with the kits. I size the holes for brass pins and epoxy the scales. The brass pins I feel have a much better look.

Seem like good blades no problems so far

The blades came sharp with decent instructions on how to attach scales. I didn't really use the instructions as I used a different method. I made them as gifts, so as of now I can't comment on how well the blades hold an edge, although being carbon steel I expect them to be good. The details call the blades stainless steel, so I don't know if that changed after I got mine or not, but the description that came with mine stated carbon steel.

    OK for first timers

This mwas my first effort. I have to agree product would be better with pins instead of the screws provided.

    Good Blade but...

THe screw together pins are too short. I made a second knife with solid brass pins. Much better.

    Cheap screws

I bought this product for a gift. The knife blade seems to be made of good steel but the bolts that hold the handle on are not very good. You cannot torque the bolts down very tightly without stripping the hexagon shaped hole in the bolt. Once this hole has been stripped it is very difficult to remove the handle even if you wanted to.

I've been looking at getting into knife

I wish there were more knife kits/parts in the catalog.
