    I did it!

After many years of hesitation I finally plunked down the dough for four of these diamond stones, from extra-coarse to extra-fine. This gives me unparalleled flexibility — I can address everything from a badly chipped blade to one that just needs a little tune up on a microbevel. They all work wonderfully well with water — a drop of detergent seems to improve the process — and I expect their useful years will surpass mine.

    DMT 11.5" Coarse Diamond stone

The extra length really helps. Hard to see much difference between medium and coarse stones. I gave it thee stars because of this. The extra coarse stone is much, much, coarser. This stone needs to be coarser to split the gap beween medium and extra coarse.
