Beautiful wood but may be too wet!

Bought this wood to use for lathe turning candle holders. Wood came with a heavy coating of wax. Turned beautifully with very sharp tools and took a very good shine. I think the wood may have been too green however as I am starting to see significant checking on several finished pieces that wasn't there initially.
