Details

The Red Mallee Burl (Eucalyptus oleosa, E. socialis) is prized for its vibrant color and heavy concentration of burl eyes. Mallee trees are scrubland vegetation that is common in many parts of Australia and has dozens of varieties. The trees are prolific producers of burl growths that can be harvested without cutting down the tree, which is why you normally see Australian burls in cap form. Burl caps are flat on one side, exposing the heart and sap wood but the outer rounded side is bumpy or jagged with the bark edge.

Features:

  • Vibrant color mixed with burl eyes and unique grain patterns
  • Turn hollow vessels or candle bases
  • Resaw to create one-of-a-kind bottle stoppers
Specifications:
  • Region: Australia
  • Weight: 1 kg - 2 kg
What's Included:

    Very small!

Got one of these from online order and was quite disappointed. The piece was like a small triangle about 6” x 4” and depth of 3 1/2 “ tapered to a point. Not sure what to do with it as too small for a decent bowl.
