Amazakoue (Guibourtia ehie) is also called Shedua and Mozambique, typically depending on the location in West Africa where it was harvested. Its heartwood is yellow brown to dark brown with gray to almost black stripes, and its straight grain has an attractive figure. Sometimes it contains whitish deposits. Amazakoue polishes well, takes finish easily, and is a less expensive substitute for Indian Rosewood. It is used in guitar manufacturing, in the back sides of acoustic guitars. Native to Ghana.

      Nice wood, but...

Unlike the image, it came raw and waxed. I wish Woodcraft would give us a choice of wax coating or not, or at least match the picture, because even though green wood is easier to turn, it tends to crack as it dries, With waxed wood like this, you better finish the turning the same day as you start it, and immediately seal it. Leave it half-finished on the lathe for a few days, and it is almost guaranteed to crack.

      Great hardwood

Made my first pepper mill from this material and it was a delight turning and finishing. A great hardwood.
