John McClung: How to Carve a Walking Stick – Part 2

In our previous blog, “What do carver John McClung and Woodcraft have in common? – Part 1“, we featured new walking sticks offered by Woodcraft (Item #153534 at your local store only) and our carver, John McClung of Custom Carved Mantles, who carved two of the wood spirits as a fine example for us.

In part 2 of this continuation blog on Willow Sticks, we’ll take a look at John’s wood spirit carvings from start to finish. Both sticks were carved with the same process using pfeil Swiss made carving tools. Since both sticks were carved using the same procedures, we will show the smaller diameter stick in detail in this video. Both willow stick photo sets will be posted on our Woodworking Adventures Photo Gallery, as well as our Facebook photo gallery for your reference.

Here is the step by step photo video (photos courtesy of John McClung) with pfeil tools used in the carving process. You can stop the video at any time to see each frame as needed.

Pick up your Diamond Willow Sticks and your pfeil Swiss made carving tools at your local Woodcraft store.

Remember John McClung at Custom Carved Mantles can be reached for a carving request at 1-740-350-3193.

May you find the “spirit” in your carvings…Frank
