Transform Furniture with Paint
Comments (0)Adding paint over an existing piece of furniture is a great way to dramatically change its look without a huge investment. While some folks are of the “never paint wood” philosophy, there are times when it is the most economical choice.
Susan “Swooz” Hudson from Black Dog Salvage presents three furniture pieces that have achieved new life with Black Dog Salvage Furniture Paint.

1. END TABLES
“These were in pretty rough shape,” Swooz said. “The brown mahogany stain was worn, had an uneven finish, and it was dirty.” The end tables were cleaned with TSP Heavy-Duty Cleaner and painted with Clean Canvas. Since the deep, dark mahogany stain was such a contrast to the white paint, it took two coats to cover. The first coat was hand painted, and the second was sprayed. Swooz topped off the end tables with two coats of Guard Dog Topcoat Matte Finish. New knobs were added to give them an updated look.
We love the beachy vibe achieved by adding the basket of shells and turquoise accents.

2. HALL TREE/BENCH
The “before” had a waxed finish, so it was cleaned with TSP first. Two coats of Patinio Greenio were brushed over the whole piece. The baskets under the bench were brushed with one coat of Roanoke Rain, as were the hooks and the wire mesh in the top on the back of the piece. This was done to provide a nice contrast. The hooks were screwed back into place before adding two coats of Guard Dog Topcoat Satin finish. Baskets were also sprayed with Satin.
Wouldn’t this look awesome in an entryway?
3. BUFFET TABLE
“The red buffet was in deplorable shape,” Swooz said. “Nasty, dirty, dark mahogany finish, ugly brass knobs.” She cleaned it and painted it with two coats of I Need a Bandage and then sealed with Guard Dog Topcoat Satin. New knobs were added in two different styles, but both in black and silver.
This project turned out so fabulous that you will see it in many of the Black Dog Salvage Furniture Paint marketing materials.
