Comments about 6" Riser Block :

I am a newby wood turner who is learning to turn bowls. To this end I am using a lot of green wood in the form of logs that were given to me so the 6" cut on my Jet Band Saw made it impossible to cut and trim the pieces of logs into bowl blanks. So at the advice of other wood workers I purchased this upgrade. Let me start off by saying that I wished there were a list of parts in the description. That would really have helped me with this decision. It comes with the riser block, blade guard, long bolt, guide post, upper wheel blade guard and 3/8" blade. So you have everything you need to do the upgrade. As it has been mentioned in other reviews, the directions are not the best but if you can understand an exploded view then they are adaquate. It does take one other person to help you for a few minutes, holding the upper part as you bolt it down, but other then that it is a 1 person job. Also mention in other reviews, there is a small spring and ball bearing that provide tension to the Guide Post. Make sure to remove the allen screw and these two parts or they are easily lost. It is really straight forward and only took be about an hour to do and the results are a 12" cut that allows me to cut and shape logs up to 11 1/2". My only compalint is that I wished they inscluded a 1/2" blade as this wouls have been better for cutting the logs and for Resawing. I highly recommend this upgrade to anyone with this saw but also want to warn that now that you can cut bigger capacities, your motor may not be strong enough. I have a 1hp motor and it does bog down a bit. Nothing serious though. Just slow down and take your time.

Comments about 6" Riser Block :

I have a Porter Cable 14 inch BandSaw which is allegedly built by Jet. I bought a kit for resawing for delta saws, and nothing fit. The Jet kit however fit perfectly. SO...I bought the Jet Riser block kit, and went to town. The first thing I noticed was the guide pins were in the wrong location for use in the Porter Cable, and so I pulled the existing pins, and drilled some holes with a jig I made and did a test fit, and got the bottom pins in the right spot. Then I moved to the upper pins. The good news is, the cast iron of the block is VERY easy to cut with a brad point drill bit and the pins in the Porter Cable base fit just fine. The pins I pulled out of the new Jet block came right out, and were easy to fit to the new locations. Once I got the pieces in place, it all fit very nicely. upon reassembly of the arm jib, the arm was slightly too large. In fact by .003 according to my micrometer. No problem. Head off to the auto parts store, and get a brake hone, and some honing oil. I honed it for a few minutes, and it slides perfectly. Great. BUT there was no roll pin included! So, back to the hardware store, and buy a roll pin...I reassembled the saw in full, and fit the new blade. This is where I was utterly furious. Raise the price if need be, but DO NOT give me a poor quality blade. I went to do a piece of hardwood, and do some resawing, and the blade was not up to the job-and is downright awful. I am happy that I have a saw that is capable of 12 inch resaw, but am pretty puzzled at the lousy blade. It could have ruined a VERY expensive piece of Koa.

Comments about 6" Riser Block :

I purchased this to be able to run larger logs through my saw to rough out blanks for my lathe. The setup was straight forward and although I installed it by myself I would recommend a helper while mounting the top part of the saw back on the riser block.
