Product Information:

The Steel City model 20530 features a powerful 1-1/2 HP induction motor that provides “over the top” power. The Reeves drive variable-speed system incorporated into this drill press can be used to set speeds from 500 RPM up to 2,500 RPM, which makes it ideal for both wood and metal projects. Unlike its competition, the model 20530 gives you the ability to compensate for wear and ensure consistent accuracy of the quill assembly over the life of the machine. With a 6" quill stroke, you can drill 30% deeper than most drill presses in this class.

Standard Equipment Includes: a 1-1/2 HP, Single Phase, 120V Induction Motor, Pulleys, Belt, 0 to 5/8" Chuck, Chuck Key, Cast-Iron Tilting Table, Rack and Pinion Raising/Lowering Mechanism, External Depth Stop, Drift Key, LED Lamp, and Owner’s Manual.

Comments about Steel City 17" Variable Speed Drill Press :

I needed this press to be mobile so I got a heavy duty mobile base and added a 1 1/2" plywood platform to it. I also welded a steel angle iron perimeter for the plywood so it's sandwiched between steel. While bolting the press base to that with the supplied long skinny bolts, one of them stripped like it was made of chocolate. I tossed them and used my own 3/8" grade 8 bolts, washers and nuts instead. Also the threaded holes in the press base were rough and 2 of the 4 did not go all the way thru. I ran a 10 mm tap thru all of them and used my own 10 mm x 50 bolts with washers and lock washers instead of the supplied 10 mm x 40 bolts. Be sure to remove the sticky coating from the column or the rack won't slide around the column. I was test fitting the table support when I found this. Also you need to remove the rack and insert it through the slot in the bracket so the solid end clears the gear teeth. Great machine otherwise and way more power and range than I'll need but as Tim Taylor said, more power is better.

Comments about Steel City 17" Variable Speed Drill Press :

Purchased this at Woodcraft, have had it for several months and can say it is a great machine. The only thing I can say bad about the drill press is the light is not in a real good location, this would have received a 5 Star, other than that I have no complaints. Great machine, you can change the speed without having to change a belt. Drills very deep holes 6" without having to adjust the table and the holes are perpendicular to the face of the work, very accurate, depth stop is easy to set.
