Product Information:

The Excalibur 16" variable speed scroll saw is a slightly smaller version of the 21” Excalibur scroll saw. The unique “Tilting Head” design provides a stable platform when cutting straight or on an angle. Unlike other scroll saws where the table is tilted for angled cuts, the entire head of the Excalibur tilts 45 degrees; to the left or the right. This allows the user to better control the work piece on a flat table surface, for a more safe and accurate cut. Solidly built upper and lower parallel arms keep the blade straight with minimal blade deflection allowing for precise cuts, making this the most sought after scroll saw on the market.

Changing blades is a snap - No tools required – it utilizes finger operated blade clamps. Excalibur’s upper arm lift is ideal for threading the blade through fret work. Easy access speed and tension controls. Features a 120V, 1.3 amp constant torque permanent magnet motor. Large 12” x 18 1/2" table surface. Onboard dust blower. Specifications: Throat: 16" Maximum cutting depth: 2" Variable speed: 400-1400 SPM Dimensions: L: 28" W: 15" H: 17". Weight: 53 lbs. Uses standard 5” straight scroll saw blades. Includes operation manual and 2 year warranty. Stand Sold Separately.

Comments about Excalibur Scroll Saw 16 inch :

This is my first major tool purchase. After online research including watching Youtube video demoing this saw I took the plunge and bought it. Not sorry I did. I took a 3-hour scroll saw class at Woodcraft but otherwise had no experience. I am female & needed some help lifting it out of the box, as it is heavy. Set it up on a counter in my laundry room which it just fits (glad I got the 16"). It is sturdy enough not to need clamping to the work surface. No vibration. Fairly quiet, no ear protection needed. Cuts up to about 2-1/2" thick wood, but the thicker the wood the slower it cuts. Is a little slower than Delta scroll saw used in class but feels a bit smoother. I like the tilting head for bevel cuts. Changing blades & tensioning is easy and so is speed adjustment. When you pluck, the "ping" tells you the blade is tight enough. The hold-down clamp seemed to be in my way, so I removed it. Had trouble with the screws that hold the blade knocking into the table on larger-angle bevels. I realized if I put the screw tightener from the top below the table and moved the one from the bottom to above the table, they were then angled correctly to solve the problem. Don't know if it came wrong or I mixed them up when I first got the saw. I've used it in dollhouse construction (e.g. cutting out doors & windows, cutting trim), dollhouse furniture design (including compound cuts), full-size welcome sign, orchid pot. For just occasional use, a $20 handheld jeweler's saw used with a pin vise clamped to a table may serve the same purpose, but if you want to do a lot of scroll sawing, I highly recommend the Excalibur. I recommend getting a variety of blades for different wood thicknesses & get extra spiral blades for intricate work, as they are easiest to break. I've found it pays to use the right blade for the job to increase accuracy and minimize sanding.

Worked great right out of the box! I will tune it more, but had to do a little test. Great features as everyone else has said. Great dust collection! That may impress me the most. Very little dust on my table. In pic I cut a piece of 3/4 by 1-1/2 red oak along the 1-1/2 depth. So little dust!

Easily tilted blade (not the table) makes "handcutting" dovetails a real joy. Love the dual link parallel arm construction that very few scrollsaws have. It really reduces vibration. Very quiet to operate.

It came very sturdily packaged, with manual anyone can follow. Fit and finish were flawless. Surprisingly lightweight, quiet, & vibration free, cuts through the most difficult and hardest hardwoods effortlessly giving a mirror smooth finish on end grain. The 16" throat seems more than adequate for my needs - current & future. No special need to secure the saw to reduce vibration - there was none. I could not be happier.

Comments about Excalibur Scroll Saw 16 inch :

For casual or professional use, this is a premier-level scroll saw unmatched by anything you may find in the Big Box stores. Save your money until you can afford to buy this one. You won't regret it. Sturdy and vibration-free scroll cutting. Easy to use and intuitive controls. A real joy to use. Be aware, there is no blade guard beneath the cutting table. Do not reach under the table while the blade is running.
