    Comments about Powermatic 18" Bandsaw, 5HP, 1PH, 230V, Model PM1800 :

A big beautiful mustard colored machine! Many features and a very well thought out design. It's got a lot of visual "WOW" factor and even more when you add a good blade and start using it. Solid heavy duty construction and from a company that offers great customer service. It's pricey, but compared to others in the same category, the added value is there. Be cautious when moving this thing and make plans for it's arrival. It's bigger than it looks and it is heavy. With the pallet and packaging it's about 95-inches high and approaching 900 pounds. That drops down to just over 800 pounds and 88-inches tall when sitting in the shop. You're going to need help--either a lot of strong friends or a strong mechanical advantage (think fork lift or pallet lift) and probably both. If you use a mobile base, make sure it is rated for the weight. Also, the base of the saw itself is not rectangular so much as it is oval at the corners. Take this into account and prepare a solid platform on the mobile base. A solid/double layer of 3/4" plywood should work fine. There are TWO 4-inch dust collector ports that need a fair bit of vacuum. Not a big issue in larger shops, but for small shop/home use, make sure your shop is equipped with a dust collector capable of meeting the saws' needs. Powermatic did drop the ball on one thing with the saw, but it's relatively minor. The factory supplied blade is substandard. For this much money it should come with a better blade.
