So far so good
Jet 12" Bench Top Drill Press with DRO, Model JDP-12
First one had no drill table in the box. Took it back and was exchanged with absolutely no hastles. Once I got it set up and tuned in it drills pretty good. The laser and LED light are nice features. The variable speed is good but you have to go slow with the adjustment handle as to not cause belt slippage while adjusting.

Great little drill press
Got this for my home shop and I have to say it has performed past my expectations. No lie out of the box you have to re-adjust the chuck and make sure the bed is running square to the bit, but after that it just works great.
Great where it counts
Working in a wide variety of materials (all types of woods & metals) means constant speed changes. The variable speed system and digital readout sold me, making it more likely that I'll use the right speed for the job. Jet put their money where it counts, in the spindle/quill/chuck. I measured run-out less than .002". Good quality chuck. I have a small garage shop so needed a compact bench-top, but wanted more than one of the toy DP's that populate this segment. Laser markers a nice plus for quick set up. Motor power not the biggest out there but more than enough for 95% of the jobs you're likely to encounter. My only negative is that the finish of the base and table castings is extremely rough and crude. I had to take a file to knock the edges off. I'll take a grinder to the surfaces next and re-paint. I expected better from Jet, especially given the higher price compared to other bench top DP's. Overall, I'm happy with the combination of features and trade-offs, and consider this DP a good value.
maybe the next one will work
I think I should have gone with my gut feeling concerning the variable speed option and stuck with a non-bells-and-whistles machine. I used this thing less than ten times before the digital readout went black. That's much too soon to have something break.

This Machine is obviously built to a price. The belt is cheap, the motor is cheap, the cord is cheap, the handle ends are cheap, the top belt cover is cheap.. BUT! It works well. The spindle is well made with ball bearings and a nice chuck. Sure, its not a Jacobs or anything but it is better than what you get from Delta. Almost no runout, I measure .002 to .001 but with the vibration I'm not equipped to measure it accurately. The speed readout is accurate. The Stand, Post and table are heavy duty. It could use a little finesse. I spent some time cleaning and re-greasing with synthetic lube. I also filed some rough edges here and there. It's powerful enough for what I do. I give it five stars and I hate everything.
Fantastic for drilling pen blanks
I use mine for my small woodworking projects, especially for drilling pen blanks. It works great & I really like that I can adjust the rotational speed on the fly (other drill presses require opening the top & moving a belt). Having the lamp underneath & the laser sights are a bonus. About the only thing holding this back in my opinion from being the ultimate drill press is having a keyless chuck.
