Best Pads I've used
I just used my Abranets yesterday while rebuilding an old exterior door with a damaged lock pocket. It's one of those products that's so simple and so superior to the traditional options that I had to post a review.
The mesh makes it unnecessary to line up the pad to the holes on your sander and it still manages to breath better than a pad designed for your RO Sander's hole pattern.
Because they come with a tall, wispy loop backing the dust is able to pass through the entire face of the disk, not just through the space directly over the vent hole on the pad. If the mesh stood directly on the holes.. it'd suck up dust like a shop-vac pressed against a screen door. Because it stands off.. it works like a vac on a sawdust collection box with a screen over it. It creates a plenum between the sanding surface and the sander's disk to allow the whole face of the disk to breathe.
The 'cushy' looping also gives you a softer sanding face so you're less likely to gouge or burn your work surface. The variety pack goes all the way down to 600 grit.. and this is the only pad I'd even considering trying to sand that fine with on a RO.. even with my variable-speed Ridgid.
With a traditional pad.. 240 and higher is pretty much worthless because you can't clear the dust fast enough from the grit.. and I'd never trust that sort of delicate sanding with the traditional paper on hard-plastic velcro of my RO sander.
They adhere very well.
They pull more dust off the surface than a solid disk with dust holes.
They have a finer abrasive grit than a similarly rated traditional pad so you get good material removal without gouging.
..They're just awesome.
Oh yea.. they last longer than traditional pads so they quickly pay for themselves.
I can't wait to pick up the 40-60-80 pack.
Allows sawdust through backing
Burt the elder
works well with dust collection system as it allows sawdust through the "net" backing
