Product Information:

These oil-based Gel Topcoats and Stains are quite possibly the easiest of all finishes to use and achieve a "hand-rubbed" look without all the work. Application is easy with a foam brush or lint free cloth. The heavy bodied gel formulation permits the product to flow out evenly (no drips or runs) preventing uneven penetration for consistent color control. Combined with no sanding (your choice to sand or not) between coats and a quick “re-coat” time, you’ll be finished sooner with less effort and better results than ever before.

  • This is the stain that has the most "finishing feel" of all General Finishes' products
  • Woodworkers love the lustrous finish that shows up
  • Heavy-bodied, and so does not penetrate as deeply into the wood as liquid oil-base stains do
  • Can help you get a more even appearance on difficult woods such as aspen or pine
  • Easy-to-use stains simply wipe on with a cloth or applied with a foam brush (no spills or splashes)

  • Need help refinishing old cabinets or cabinets that are in perfectly good condition? Tired of that golden oak color
and would like a more modern, up to date look? General Finishes Gel Stains open up a world of easy-to-attain
possibilities for revitalizing wood furniture, redecorating your home by changing the color of wood cabinets,
furniture and floors, and achieving an excellent first-time finish. These oil-based products are super easy to
use and produce a ‘hand-rubbed’ look with little effort. Just apply with a foam brush or lint-free cloth
and wipe off – heavy-bodies gel offers even flow and consistent color control. Recoat time is quick, and
sanding between coats is your choice. Use the gel topcoat for extra durability and protection.

Many homes built in the 1980’s used stock golden oak cabinets in the kitchen and the bathroom.
These cabinets were made with excellent quality construction and have proved very durable over
the years in your home. A couple decades have passed and you would like to bring your kitchen
or bathroom up to date with a different color combination for your cabinets or furniture.
General Finishes Gel Stain is the simple answer – and extremely affordable too!
  • Available in 11 colors, including the popular Java (shown here)
  • Multiple coats can be used for even more color combinations

Comments about General Finishes, Brown Mahogany Gel Stain, 1/2 Pint :

I found out about this gel stain on Pinterest. I had to try it because bloggers and pinners raved about the results and how easy it was to use. I couldn't wait to update the look of an oak table that I loved, but didn't match my new espresso kitchen. Being that the gel sits on top rather than soaking into the wood means only a light sanding, steel wool finish and no stripping. The gel goes on evenly as long as you put enough on, then wipe off the excess. On the first coat, I didn't know exactly how much was excess. No problem, I lightly sanded and added 2 more coats (wiping all of each off) to achieve a darker color, applied a finish coat and achieved perfection. With the still wet rags I wiped over my barstool footrails and kitchen cabinets where there were a few nicks and wear marks. Everything looks new and I feel so talented!

Comments about General Finishes, Brown Mahogany Gel Stain, 1/2 Pint :

I used these stains to redo my half bathroom cabinets, all of my kitchen cabinets and the wetbar. Next is my foyer stairway. It's easy to work with, although it is time consuming, but the results are beautiful. If it is your first time, the Java color is more forgiving as it is darker and covers better so your mistakes are less noticeable.
