Comments about General Tools 6" Carbon Fiber Digital Fractional Caliper, Model 146 :

The two very negative reviews (as of this writing) are interesting, and I always look at negative reviews as being more reliable than the 5 star positive ones. Mine was OK out of the box. I have not put a micrometer on it, but it reliably and accurately measures my drill bits in fractions of inches. So it is accurate enough for a woodworker. I would have rated it higher if it wasn't made of plastic. I keep it in the shop in its box, choosing to use a mechanical caliper in the field. I am not sure about the durability bouncing around in my tool kit. Of course, my mechanical ones are off by 1/64th to 1/32 inch.

Comments about General Tools 6" Carbon Fiber Digital Fractional Caliper, Model 146 :

I received this product as a Christmas gift. I recently attempted to use it and noticed the measurments appeared inaccurate. The method of measurement ( fractions, mm, inches ) would not stay consistant. I turned it off and returned to it today. The mode would not change. It was stuck on inches. Once I removed the battery and replaced it, the mode went to MM. Again it would not change back to inches. I know this was not the most expensive unit, but I expected better performance than this.

This is the first product I have ever been disappointed with from Woodcraft. Arrived with a dead battery. Put in a new one. it is inaacurrate, when measuring it also keep changing the numbers. it defaults to zero radomly while measuring item. Returning the item and getting a WIXLEY digital caliper.
