Solid plan, solid bed.
Downloadable Woodworking Project Plan to Build Country-Fresh Bed
My father and I built a bed based on these plans as a gift to my daughter a little over four years ago. The plans were well laid out, easy to use and the result is possibly the sturdiest piece of furniture currently in our home. My daughter has moved twice and is now back home and the bed is wearing like iron, disassembly/reassembly caused no issues.
One change we made to the plan was to eliminate the curve on the headboard and it came out great, and she uses it as a narrow shelf for books, and dust collectors.
This was an enjoyable project completed in just a few weeks working nights and weekends and will hopefully be an heirloom piece.

This is a well conceived plan. It was easy to follow and I love the bed!
A solid design for a solid bed
I though that this plan was well conceived and easy to follow. The bed is impressive, solid and something that will last. I'm very pleased with the outcome.
A solid bed plan for a solid build
This plan is laid out well and easy to follow. The build is not too difficult if you have the right tools, such as a hollow chisel mortiser, a dado set, band saw, belt sander and a whole lot of clamps. The most involved part of the build for me were the four posts. They aren't really difficult, but they take time to make. Plan to set aside plenty of glue-up time for the posts and head/foot board assemblies. In other words, this is not a project that can be knocked out in a weekend. I was surprised by the size of it when completed. This is a large and solid frame, but it isn't aesthetically heavy. This is a nice frame that you can be proud to make. Do plan to spend some money to build this. 5/4 oak isn't cheap and this plan calls for a lot of it! Including hardware, I spent about $600 on this frame. If you we're to buy something similar from a retailer, this bed could easily run over $1,000, and you won't have the satisfaction of building it yourself. Treat yourself and your shop to something nice and build this bed. I'm glad I did!
frame and panel bed
This is a very nicely conceived frame and panel bed. There is a picture of the bed as it should look when completed. A complete materials list is included, with specific sizes, as well as a chart showing different lumber sizes. The plan is very flexable, if you want to customize your bed. You could use any species of wood, and even go to solid panels if you want to lose the ply wood panels. Good project. Requires routing and basic shaping equipment to cut grooves for panels, table saw, miter saw. A spray finisher would be nice because the head and foot boards are large, but you could do a nice job with a long brisled brush as well. Real fun project, well worth the price. Skill level, Intermediate plus.
