The wood pieces are just too fragile. Also, the precut and turned wood piece seems to be slightly too large for the metal tube. So when turning it down, the fragile wood pieces chip and can get ruined.

The Wall Street pen is a great match for the Stars and Stripes kit. Stars are small and tedious to work. Take you time to make a eautiful pen. The red/white stripes are very fragile. Take care when trimming the ends - the pieces will chip away. A disc sander would work best for trimming.
