Although there are less expensive sets like this on out there, and I have one for replacement purposes (when I break a bit), this WoodRiver tapered drill set is just the ticket for setting screws correctly especially in hardwood. With a depth-stop and countersink that can be set to match the length of almost any screw size I am now able to get a better, and stronger, wood connection.

The taper bits are flimsy. I broke one after one use. The good news is that my local Woodcraft store carries replacement taper bits made by Fuller that are a perfect fit and it is obvious they are better. Problem is, replacing all the bits is pricey alternative but will be necessary.

on the smallest size, both set screw taps were not done deep enough for the screws to lock the bit, so I added a metal spacer to the bottom of the tap, seems to work ok but have not used extensively.

I finally have a tapered drill bit set. It was frustrating to hunt up a drill bit that was close to the right size and then another one to drill the taper.
