Fits standard garbage cans and does the job on my 3/4 Hp wall mounted vacuum system servicing a table saw and joiner. A new metal can plus this adapter will set you back about $50 though. I have it installed on a standard 30 gallon can with the 90 degree internal elbow installed per instructions (to create a cyclone effect).

The only problem found was that the elbow on the intake inside of the cyclone lid would at times fall off - simple solution was a small screw through the elbow at the point of where it slides onto the cyclone lid - problem solved!

I am happily surprised how great this works with a 1.5HP Delta dust collector. I wish I had done it years ago! When I got a DeWalt 735 planer, I started filling up the lower bag of my dust collector very fast... I added this and very little makes it in there now, even when planing 1/32" and making pretty fine dust! Finding the right trash can is critical... The common 20 gallon plastic trash cans can fit but I think would be too short. The 35 gallon ones are too big. Fortuately I found a 31 gallon metal can with a 20.75" outside diameter which fit perfect! The lid stays on without needing a bungee cord or anything. The suction of the dust collector alone keeps it on tight... I love it! Now I haven't filled the can half way yet, but at some point it will get full enough that chips/dust will start getting sucked out, but it is SO much easier to empty than the bag on my duct collector that I think I will be doing it a lot more frequently, so don't expect that to be an issue.

The top works well with reduced 2-1/2" hoses and a shop vac. It needs a heavy duty trash can, which can be hard to find.

I bought this for use on a portable planer for controlling the shavings. I bought an additional 90 degree elbow to add inside the lid. The two ells are facing in opposite directions. I found that the garbage can collects all the shavings and none go into the Shop Vac. Works very well.

This item has one overwhelming flaw: it's designed to be used on a 32-gallon metal trash can -- which means the chips and dust cannot fall far enough away from the infeed-outflow connections to avoid being sucked back out of the can by a powerful vacuum system. I'd recommend that this be used with a vacuum system moving no more than 1000 cu ft per minute!

I installed this in line between my Woodmaster planer-molder and my Woodmaster heavy-duty (5 hp) dust collector to keep large planer chips out of the impeller. The setup works until the trash can is about half-full; then the vacuum starts just sucking the trash right on through and into the collector. I'm going to try putting it on a taller container in hopes of extending its usefulness, but right now I'm getting only about 12 gallons of collection before the unit stops giving benefit.

As quoted the lid does separate wood turning chips nicely. I have found the lid does not fit securely to the metal trash can lip and I need to weigh it down (this may be due to the 1hp blower I use). As others have stated the right angle extension that fits under the lid into the can can work loose and may need to be glued into place. Overall, I really like it though.

My old lid leaked alot of dust from around the lid and at the hose connections, this lid has good seal and has increased the suction by 100%.
