Could be better
Dockyard Micro Carving Expansion, Set of 5
I picked up this expansion set after purchasing the 1.5mm kit. First of all I'll say that the steel they're using seems very good. Holds a nice edge and produces micro shavings. .
Only issue I have with this set is that the bevel angle on the dogleg chisels seem way to steep and don't seem to cut thru wood that well. I suppose if you wanted to remove a lot of material with each stroke then this wouldn't be a problem but these are micro tools and I wanted something to take finer cuts in hard to reach areas.
The other problem I have with this set as well as the 1.5mm set I purchased is that the blades are not seated into the handles as well as they should be. I'm not implying that the blades are loose as that's not the case. What I mean is that the tool handles have flats on them (octagonal) which at first I thought was a great idea because it would allow one to mount these in a honing guide of some sort so that the bevels can be honed or reworked. Problem is that most blades are not set into their handles perpendicular to the flats on the handles. If they only would have spend a few extra minutes ensuring that they were set into the handles in this manner it would have been ideal.
Since the blades are so small, you need to be very very precise when honing or grinding a new angle as its easy to screw up the square profile of the flat chisels. The packaging even recommends using some sort of honing guide. The 9 dollar guide from woodcraft works well and would work better if the blades were true to the flats on the handles. Its a shame.

I do love love these dockyards, my only problem is sometimes they are not set properly in there handles. I have around twenty of these chisels and I would say they need to take better care of setting the blades into the handles. Some, when pushed, recess back into the handles shortening your overall blade length. I relize its a small problem and it would not keep me from recomending this tool, they are very handy.
