Product Information:

10" wide jaw and 12" opening. Just move the hardwood handle a half-turn counter-clockwise and the pivoting nut disengages, allowing you to open or close the jaws to the desired opening in a flash.

This heavy-duty vise is unequaled in quality. "Quick-release" action lets you bypass the screw for fast opening and closing. Solid steel dogs in the front jaws, when used in conjunction with a bench stop, allows oversize work to be held securely on the bench top. Machined, toed-in jaws provide a solid grip, while northern hardwood handles provide balance and comfort. The front and back jaws are drilled and tapped for countersunk holes to allow for optional wood facing. Vise easily fits any bench up to 3" thick.

  • Jaw size 10" x 4" open capacity 12"
  • Quick release action
  • Grey iron castings with black baked-enamel finish
  • Machined, toed-in jaws
  • Cold-drawn steel twin guide-bars

this vise was a breeze to install. only thing is the template is not right for the holes in the jaw. Make sure you lay the vise on the template first before you drill any holes. Other than that this is a good vise.

Comments about Jorgensen Rapid Acting Bench Vise, 4" x 10" Face, 12" Opening :

I am building a bench for a fellow woodworker and he only had $300 to spend on both face and end vise hardware. I ordered a leg vise screw from LN for the front vise and decided to install a quick release vise at the tail position. Having used Record copies such as eclipse, I dedcided to try the Jorgensen 10". The action on this vise is great and the quick release mechanism works well so far. The installation template was totally inaccurate and I am glad that I checked it before drilling into the benchtop. Aside from that, installation was a breeze. The provided handle was a bit small for my taste and too shiny so I turned a new one in ten minutes. I also added a 2" thick chop with a single dog hole to act as a wagon vise. It is a good vise and I would recommend it if your budget is tight.

To start with, the template for drilling mounting holes is not to scale to match the unit. second, the jaws are not parallel to each other. In other words ... poor workmanship. The second vise i am planning to mount to my bench will not be this brand.

This tool has been made rough. The jaws do not align. The brass nut and threaded bar is full of pit marks. The nuts poor contrition is due to casting process and the treaded bar due to a combination of tool speed and sharpness of cutting tool used. This tool does fit in well with the poor quality tools imported [...]

Comments about Jorgensen Rapid Acting Bench Vise, 4" x 10" Face, 12" Opening :

I purchased this as a replacement for a vise that was falling apart based on the recommendation from a Fine Woodworking review. Installation was a bit difficult since I opted not to remove the workbench top. The mounting template provided gets close to what is needed but does not allow for the curved transitions from the mounting plate to the rear jaw. Since I was covering the rear jaw with a wooden one that ran the full length of the workbench side, this took a bit of cutting and fitting. Once installed the vise worked perfectly. I especially like the 1/2 turn quick release feature. I should have gone this route from the beginning rather than trying to save a few bucks on a bargain vise. I can't speak to durability as the vise is brand new but it seems extremely well put together.

Comments about Jorgensen Rapid Acting Bench Vise, 4" x 10" Face, 12" Opening :

This vise works as advertised. Easily slides open/closed and clamps quickly. It comes with hardware and a template for mounting it to your bench. Requires a 3" bench face for mounting. You can use shims but as my bench is 1-1/2" thick, I made a mounting block to get it to 3". The handle is OK but the caps are way too loose and I used a screw to attach them. I'll make my own handle soon. Decent price, especially when they offer 20% off on any 1 item.
