One of the rarest woods in the world, Pink Ivory (Berchemia zeyheri) has heartwood that varies from light to dark pink and red with lighter shades of cream. Sapwood is light cream to off-white. Difficult to machine, but turns well. Stock is air dried, green by lumber standards, with the ends waxed to deter checking. Source Region: Southern Africa. Some common uses for Pink Ivory include carving, veneers, inlay, knife handles, billiard cues, chessmen, and other turned objects.
