Product Information:

The WoodRiver® V3 line of hand planes is based on the reliable Stanley Bedrock design featuring heavy, stress-relieved ductile iron castings, fully machined adjustable frogs and high carbon steel blades. The planes represent a live, evolving product line that incorporates input from users, experts and the manufacturer to produce the best working planes possible.

The WoodRiver® V3 No. 5-1/2 Bench Hand Plane is 2-7/8" wide, 14-15/16" long, has a 2-3/8" blade, and weighs slightly over 7 lbs. The No. 5-1/2 plane is generally thought of as an all- purpose plane capable of performing the smoothing tasks of the smaller planes and the jointing tasks of the larger planes. Features include soles and side machined flat and square, lightly finished Bubinga handles, and minimal tune-up required before use.

  • Modeled after the Bedrocks, Stanley Tool’s very best line

Comments about WoodRiver #5-1/2 Jack Plane :

I already had the #3, #4, #7 planes (all V3)and I was happy with them...the new 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 should be called the V3.5s. They are much improved. New size of tote fits larger hands better. The adjuster mechanism is much improved. I bought this WR 5 1/2 and a premium 4 1/2 by another company on the same day. The depth adjuster on the WR is absolutely better than the V3s and better than any other plane I own and I have and use tons of planes. Lastly, since I already have many vintage Jack planes, I chose the 5 1/2 on a whim to see how I'd like the size. For the last year, I've kept WR 5 1/2 under my bench because I use it constantly. I seldom touch the other Jacks anymore. Great product. I highly recommend this WR 5 1/2 plane and also the WR 4 1/2.
