A great basic woodturning project

WoodRiver Coffee Scoop Turning Kit Gold
I am a retired expat and former Woodcraft store employee who lives the mountains of Western Panama - a premium coffee growing and tourist region. I sell turnings at a local weekly community market, and the gold coffee scoops are popular. We have an incredible variety of beautiful tropical woods here, and they make great turnings, including coffee scoop handles.
The design of these scoops is excellent, and turning handles to fit them is a breeze - I do it all on my bench-top lathe in batches of 20 or more. First, I cut many 3/4" x 6" long square blanks, mount them between centers, and round them. Next, I lock the cylindrical blanks in a Nova Chuck with pin jaws and bore a 1/4" hole 1" deep in the opposite end with a drill chuck mounted in the tail stock. After drilling, I replace the drill chuck with a cone-type live center to secure the piece and then I can aggressively and quickly turn a profile and sand the piece.
I use 5-minute epoxy to mount the Woodcraft Gold Coffee Scoop ends into the 1/4 hole. After the epoxy is cured, I Beall Buff the finished piece using the scoop to hold it firmly while I do the buffing and waxing. (I plan to try a CA glue finish this week to preserve the beauty of the wood for these kitchen itemwhich are handled daily.)
Unfortunately, in spite of Woodcraft QA hand inspecting my shipments, ten of the last batch of twenty had either small sandpaper-like rough spots or really dull areas on the front of the scoops. Shipping back to the U.S. for replacement is too expensive, so I get stuck with some that are of lesser quality and I have to discount them.
I do gallery quality turnings, and these quality problems diminish the appeal of some of my finished scoops. I will continue to encourage Woodcraft to work with their supplier to improve the quality of the plating and clear-coat finish on this unique and exclusive product.

Xulonn Gold Coffee Scoops
Made with Product, Woodturning Kit
Good but wrong directions
Warning! These directions on this item are WRONG. The WoodRiver scoop require no bushings or tubes. This is a between center turning. The item description gives the right info, but there shouldn't be a link to the directions. The scoop does seem to be well made and not cheap thin metal.
