Comments about Sorby Handled TurnMaster w/3 HSS Cutters :

So far I've no issues with this tool. I do understand how years of use with other tools can form patterns and habits and can be hard for some to change. I use this tool with both tool rest close to work and at a distance. I have found that the knuckle nut will sit on the tool rest just fine and allow tool rest to be close to work. With any new tool, new techniques are required.

Comments about Sorby Handled TurnMaster w/3 HSS Cutters :

I can't believe Sorby released this tool. It is badly designed, in addition to bad balance it is unsafe. Maybe an extremely skilled wood turner would be able to use it. It requires the tool rest to be too far away from the work, the handle is not balanced well with the rest of the tool. I have other Sorby tools including the texture tool and I love them. Had to return this one, I expect it will be discontinued. The only explanation may be that in order to avoid patent infringements with EWT tools, the Sorby folks modified the design but failed to produce a properly functioning similar tool imo.

Stay Aeay from this tool. Sackett says it best 2 being 2 inches away makes it more dangerous. It almost took my head off lol. I am very upset with mr sorby. Buy the easy wood tools. i have one and they are great. STAY AWAY

Comments about Sorby Handled TurnMaster w/3 HSS Cutters :

Bought this with high hopes as our old set are 40+ years old. I am returning it for I was taught to place the rest near to the project; this tool makes that difficult. In order to rest the tool on the rest properly, the rest is about 2 inches away from the object you are turning. this causes unstability and gouges in the project. I finally was able to get some stability by properly placing the tool rest close; but then the knurled knob was riding on the rest. I found myself grabbing my old cutters and setting it aside. Much easier to have specific cutters ready than the changable end.
