Product Information:

Woodcraft has brought together the most exceptional stock of domestic and exotic hardwood knife scale blanks–1" thick solid stock or matching 3/8" pieces. Each piece was selected for its striking figure and milled to sizes that make the knife making process easy and efficient with minimal waste.

Redwood Burl is one of the most prized domestic turning woods. Its uniqueness and exceptional beauty make it good for a one-of-a-kind turning. We have collected some of the most highly figured redwood burls and improved on Mother Nature to stabilize them by injecting an acrylic resin. This virtually eliminates the biggest problem with burls: checking and cracking due to expansion or contraction. Native to California, Washington & Oregon.

Comments about Stabilized Redwood Burl Black 1" x 1.75" x 4.85" Knife Scale :

I was excited to see stabilized burl blocks offered by Wood Craft and the price was far better than knife supply websites. I picked up a block of the black dyed, stabilized redwood burl, Part #153756, from the store in Oklahoma City. I should have taken a very hard look at it but Wood Craft has never let me down before. After removing the block from the package, I could see that it was full of voids and flaws. It measured 1 3/8" x 1 1/4" x 5 1/8". I was able to get two small 1/4" thick scales from the block. 1/3 of the block was unusable. It looks like reject turning blank scrap that was sent to be stabilized.
