Retro Ballpoint Pen Kit - Gold
I only became involved with pen making just a few short months ago. After cutting my teeth on the slimlines, I wanted to try other styles. The Retro was my third style pen kit and I do have to say, my personal favorite. It reminds me of the pen my grandfather used. Good quality parts and assembles well. For the time and effort, much better than a slimline. A hit with friends, both male and female. Con: could stand to be a bit longer and a bit bigger in diameter. Also, I don't like the plastic piece on the tip and would be even more striking if all the pieces were metal. If Woodcraft were to make this style bigger, I would probably sell them to men with no problems. Skip the slimline and make a Retro. Less chance of a blowout.

Everyone will like this pen especially if it's a gift. Not too big for a woman, big enough for a man.
A must have.
Sleek Styling - Retro Pen - Kingwood
The retro pen kit was easy to make... my third pen! It turned easily and the assembly was smooth. The pen feels well in my hand and it looks awesome! I made it out of Kingwood to go with the Navigator pen I made earlier. My wife would like one made out of Bloodwood... I think the vampire Twilight series has gotten to her!
Re: Chas' comment on changing the refill. Just unscrew the front when you need to replace the refill (remember when you screwed it together as part of assembly?)
I agree with the previous review, it's a very pretty pen but shorter than most other pens. It was extremely easy to make, even easier than a slimline.
Nice pen - smaller than it seems here
This is a great looking pen. I love antiques and styling that pays homage to the past. A great design stands the test of time and this pen is a faithful reproduction of a great design. That said, this pen is smaller than I thought it would be and looks a bit dainty in my hands... It looks more appropriate in my wife's hand (which is fine with her, she took it from me). So if you are considering this pen as a gift for a man with man sized hands, you might want to go another direction. Also, it appears to me that once you press the twist mechanism into this pen body, there is no way to change the refill without special tools. One and done? I must be mistaken, but I did press that twist mechanism in with a machine...
