Product Information:

Juglans cinera Common Names: Butternut, white walnut, oil-nut. A straight grained, coarse textured wood with medium brown to dark brown heartwood, sometimes with a reddish tint. Butternut is closely related to Black Walnut. While the difference is not black and white, the wood of Butternut is considerably lighter-colored than Black Walnut, as well as being very soft and lightweight.. Great carving wood when accenting the grain in the carving. Some common uses for Butternut include: veneer, carving, furniture, interior trim, boxes, and crates. Source region: Canada and USA.

  • Grain is typically straight
  • Easily worked with both hand and machine tools
  • Great carving stock
  • Butternut glues, stains, and finishes well
  • Sometimes called White Walnut

  • Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.

Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, while the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.
