Good for stock layout, not for drafting
Groz 6" Steel Compass
I use this product to do curve layout on lumber stock. I had originally purchased it for drafting, however the tool didn't come with a sharp scribe and is too heavy to comfortably lay out curves on paper for plans. The weight is 7 ounces, and much too heavy for sustained use.
I am pleased that it will hold my heavy HB lead mechanical pencil without any modification. I found that the knob that fixes this compass to a particular angle was a little awkward to use as it sits only 1/4" proud.
As I said before the scribe leg of this compass was not sharp when it arrived. I took a mill file to it to create a useful point. This is a minor issue, but a must if you want to keep the tool from wandering out of a center point.
