Fast and accurate
Laurey Perfect Mount Template for Drawers
I have built many drawers. I have created many templates for the job at hand, and this is the fastest that I have used. On the surface, this is very simple. First, the center point (left to right) is marked, so, if you mark the center point (left to right) on the drawer, it is trivial to center your drawer handles and knobs.
The template provides drilling points for the center (left to right) and also points for screw holes that are 3", 3.5", and 4" apart. Each of these "widths" provide hole points that are 1", 1.25", 1.5", 2.5", 3", 3.5", 4.5", and 5" from the top. Obviously, you can flip it around and you have holes that distance from the bottom. So, when I had a drawer that was 6.75" tall, I set the template and used the holes 3" from the top.
I use this by setting the top ridge along the top (or bottom) of the drawer and then I use an awl to mark the locations that I desire to drill. I then use a brad point bit to drill my hole in the drawer front. If I desire an "unsupported" distance, i can place a spacer block between the drawer top and the top lip of the guide.
The guide also has two extra sets of holes. One is marked 50mm x 96mm, and the other is labeled 100mm x 96mm. This is for handles that have "holes" 96mm apart. The first set is 50mm from the top, and the other is 100mm from the top.
You can as easily use this to place handles that are not 'centered' by setting your "center line" at an appropriate location; for example, if you want to place drawer pulls3" from the left and write, just mark the spot then use this guide.
