Comments about HTC Clamp Rack :

The model I bought (early 2013) is sturdier than the one shown in online pictures at the time. It also has side extensions for long clamps. The casters may also have been improved - unlike earlier reviewers I was easily able to install them with channel-lock pliers and a crescent wrench to hold the nut.

Comments about HTC Clamp Rack :

A great clamp rack, especially when on sale. Enabled me to bring all my clamps (over 100) to one place so I have them when I need them. I did add 4 pieces of angled aluminum across the sides - adding strength and extra space .

I finally have most of my clamps organized. Lucked out as I have a wrench that works on the casters. Small parallel Pliers Wrench by Knipex.

Comments about HTC Clamp Rack :

This product lives at the intersection of poor design and shoddy materials. Clearance issues abound where the casters with threaded posts attach to the frame - to the extent that in two cases no known wrench could grab the nut much less turn it. Of course, with no way to hold the post stationary, turning the nut just turns the post anyway. Well-made casters have flats that a wrench or pliers could get a grip on. These have flats, but they're smaller than the body of the caster, so they can't be gripped, short of grinding the properly sized open-end wrench to a thickness 1/8". But you'll only get to this point if you forgo one or two of the bolts that attach the frame sides to the base. Otherwise you won't even get the nuts onto the casters' posts in the first place. Speaking of those bolts, the fact that they come with nuts and washers already assembled adds an unnecessary step to the assembly process as they all have to be dismantled first. While you're doing that, you may not notice the cross-threaded nuts, but you'll notice when you try to use them. Fuzzy photographs and line drawings from a previous version don't enhance the instructions any. That said, if I ever get the thing together (two hours and counting) It will no doubt do a serviceable job of providing movable storage for my many clamps.

Comments about HTC Clamp Rack :

I like having lots of clamps available and almost always pick up a few each trip to woodcraft. Made my own rack but mine did not manuver well so I got this sale rack. Assembly went fine but casters were a real irritation. Finally removed the bottom nuts and was able to get a rachet wrench in the space. Took way longer to assemble because of this problem. Also only came with 3 rods but parts list says eleven.

    Caster mounting stinks

    Cons

    • Bad Design

    Best Uses

Comments about HTC Clamp Rack :

Let me add to the list of people who had problems mounting the casters. I am a pretty handy person and have way more tools than most people, but I didn't have what it took to tighten the casters. This experience adds to a belief that I have had for years. If the people who design these things (automobiles, clamp racks, whatever) ever had to get out in the shop and work on them, things would be designed differently. This isn't a great fix, but here is what I did. I added two washers to the bolt of the caster before inserting into the frame. That gave me just enough room to get some channel locks in there and get it somewhat tight. By the way, better have metric wrenches. I would not recommend this to a friend at full price. I would recommend it at the price I got ($50 off, [...] and another discount), and only with a warning about the sorry caster design. I value my friends.

Comments about HTC Clamp Rack :

Assembly of wheels to frame was poorly designed. Because of the plastic sleeve in the nuts, the nuts were difficult to tighten onto the wheel "bolts." You could not get a good grip on the bolts or, for that matter, the nuts to tighten. Very frustrating.

Comments about HTC Clamp Rack :

A clamp rack on wheels is a very useful tool in a shop when it comes time to do a thorough cleaning. In fact, the ease of the job is directly proportional to the number of things that are on wheels. The mobile rack also keeps clamps accounted for and in easy reach at the glue up table which makes it a real time saver & a great asset management tool.
