Product Information:

With Microplane blades, the gentlest of strokes yields aggressive, yet smooth cuts on even the hardest woods. The razor sharp edges of the stainless steel blades are acid etched for long life and will never corrode. The chips that are produced are slightly heavier than sawdust, so they fall to the floor rather than creating a cloud of dust. Once used, you'll wonder how you ever worked without a Microplane blade!

  • Requires very little sanding after use (finish sanding only).
  • Each shaper creates small shavings instead of dust for a healthier work environment.
  • Can be used with either a drill press or a hand drill
  • Patented blade designs will not clog.
  • Dimensions: Drill Attachments measure 3.5" total height with shaft, cutting blade height: 2 1/8".

Comments about 1" Diameter Rotary Shaper :

The Microplane dulls quickly on man-made products such as plywood, partical board or OSB. Woodcraft Supply does not sell or offer the guide bearing shown in their ad. The bearing kit sold elsewhere costs about $10. Instead of using an expensive guide bearing however, I prefer using a wood guide, rounded on the end to match the profile of the cutter. When using the cutter in a drill press, I clamp the wood guide to the table so that it is positioned slightly below the cutter. The guide can be adjusted slightly proud or shy of the front edge of the cutter to control the amount of material that gets removed with each pass. For the final pass, I like to remove the microplane and install a similar size drum sander. This allows the use of the same wood guide and leaves a smooth finish.

Comments about 1" Diameter Rotary Shaper :

I use this thing thing to shape knife handles and it does great at that job. It takes a little while to master but when you do, you probably dont wanna work without it. worked great on rosewood burl and pewter silver but not to great on a acrylic blank as it tore out cracked pieces.

Comments about 1" Diameter Rotary Shaper :

Essential for the minimalist workshop. I used to use sanding drums in my drill and drill press for shaping shelf brackets, table legs, etc. - a very tedious process. This tool does the same job in a fraction of the time. It is very easy to use and get repeatable results, even in a hand drill - but it takes a little practice to get used to how rapidly it removes material.
