Sjobers Elite 2000
Sjobergs Elite 2000 Workbench
This is absolutely top of the line commercially made workbench. It is massive and will not budge when using hand planes or any other hand tool I can imagine. Vises are a pleasure to use. They are large and do not rack when holding a board at one end. I did not buy the cabinet that goes in the tressel underneath because I keep two large wooden tool chests side by side in that space and therefore have most of my hand tools at easy reach. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Nordic line or Elite 2000?
I'm writing this review since it is not easy to see this Sjorberg workbench locally. So hope this will help those also not able to touch one of these before they buy it.
The Sjorberg Nordic I saw at the store was OK for the money but it is pretty cheesy. A good bench, but a competing metal bench with a wood top was just as good and less money. So I had bought the books to build my own.
But then the Elite 2000 went on sale and so I decided to order one to compare. This bench is massive relative to the Nordic. The top is around 400lbs alone. The vices were smooth and excellent. By the time I added up the cost of the wood, the vices and the dogs, the discounted price started to make sense. Glad I bought this. The only flaw was a partially misdrilled hole on the bottom of one of the legs. Unfortunately it is in a visible place BUT, it is a workbench. I expect that to be the first of many dings.
So is the Elite 2000 worth the extra dollars more than the Nordic - heck yes!
I also got the storage cabinet that went underneath. Quality on this was good and it fits exactly between the horizontal pieces and between the legs. If you are even thinking about the storage module, get it as part of the combo.
The bench and combo will fit in the back of a toyota forerunner but make sure someone (or two) is around to help you unload.
SJOBERGS Elite 2000
I used the Sjobergs Nordic Plus for 5 years so the Elite 2000 was an upgrade purchase. I looked at the benches on the market and decided to stick with the Sjobergs since I am a fan of the double row round dogs. Price and quality of course played a big part in the decision also.
The 1" elite holdfasts combined with the 3 1/4" thick top makes for incredible clamping for such tasks as simultaneous jointing of two pieces of shop sawn veneer. With the thick top of the bench and the 1" dog hole, the holdfasts engage immediately and actually "holdfast" the veneer sandwiched between mdf.
The vises are simply a great design. I can now hold pieces vertically for chisel work without fear. I put a 54" piece of 8/4 cherry in the vise and ran the jointer plane the full length. The board did not move.
The Sjobergs Elite is a great bench at a great price for those who love the double row dogs.
