Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

Needed to drill over 400 holes for dowels in (2) 4'x 4' projects. it was important for the dowels to be fairly straight. (that would be the most important consideration, this guide will give you close but not perfect) I was impressed with the results, however I first pre-drilled a shallow pilot hole before using the guide to drill 5/8" holes with a spade drill bit. That helped to quickly center the larger drill bit with less drift. The dowels are pressed fit to the base, no glue.

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

I used the Precision Drill Guide to drill perpendicular holes in a thick work bench top to secure reloading press equipment. The 90 degree marking did not correspond to the actual angle, so a square was used to correct. While drilling, the two guide rods twisted, so I needed to use it gently to get the job done. For the price, it could have been better built.

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

This guide is great addition for portable drilling, caution suggested for 1/2" or larger spade type bit when using an electric drill unit. Easy to set-up and a great drill press substitute for non-precision type project. Great tool for a start-up DYI. BE AWARE REPAIR PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. Which is surprising when you consider the cost of the unit is over $50.00 plus the unit is not that complicated in it design which lents itself to being repair. I bent the hex drive shaft that fit into the chuck of a drill, situation was a 3/4" spade bit, 1/2" electric drill, and 2 1/4" thick hard maple. Boy was that a life lesson.

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

The drill guide is too light weight and flimsy to hold steady when in use even on sturdy, smooth, flat surfaces. I first tried to use the press to drill pilot holes in the 2x4 construction of a frame for a work bench and gave up after the first few holes. I then tried using the press to drill pilot holes for screen clips and ended up free handing the work after again struggling with the press for the first few holes.

    • Vibrates and whobbles

    Best Uses

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

I wanted to used for drilling the holes for railing spindles. I used it in 3 different drills and in all 3 the chuck spindle would whobble as much as 1/4" off center. Needed to use it now so I did not have time to return it. Not accurate at all for drilling on center. The angle gage was usefull but that is about the only good thing on this item. I would not recommend to use it for precision drilling.

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

Adjust angle first, then install drill bit, adjust drill depth, attach portable drill last, practice on scrap a few times then you will find satisfaction in use. Use a comfortable clamping scheme to hold to stock. It's great for out of shop use when accurate vetical and angle holes are desired, much better than eye ball or free hand with bubble level. Really good when project is too large to use a floor mounted drill press. Practice is the key to complete satisfaction.

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

I bought a similar product a year ago that was sturdy and well made. This newer version is just OK. There is enough flex that angle settings are not guaranteed.
