Product Information:

Tired of using a tool rest that's too short, too soft and designed by an engineer that has no idea what it's like to even use a lathe? If you'd like to spend more time turning instead of tuning, the Woodcraft lathe tool rest system is for you. The solid steel bowl rests provide a stable curve for turning and a flat top for vibration-free scraping. The "S" bowl rest is 14" long with a 5" D bend on one end and an 8" D bend on the other. Woodcraft tool rests are modular in design to save you money (buy two rests and one post) and permit you to use your rests on more than one lathe. Select the proper diameter post for your lathe and a tool rest in a length or shape to meet your needs. Note: tool rest lengths include threads. Posts screw into rests and can easily be removed and attached to a different accessory.

  • S-shaped tool rest for bowls
  • Interference-free hand movement
  • Solid steel construction
  • Part of the Woodcraft tool rest modular system
  • Save money with 2 rests and 1 post

Comments about S" Bowl Rest :

I was skeptical because of the reasonable price. I purchased the unit with the 3.5" post and it works great on my Jet 1442 lathe. The unit is strong and easy to use. By reversing the "S" inside and outside cuts are easier.

Comments about S" Bowl Rest :

I had bought this rest to use with my shopsmith when I first started turning bowls. Later I bought a used Nova 3000. It had a nice bowl rest and I kind of forgot the "S" Woodcraft rest but I didn't completly. Sometimes on larger, deeper bowls I would remember how well the "S" worked on the shopsmith. Recently, I dug it out and realized I could get a bigger post and be back in business. You can change the post size which made it a great value for me since I only had to buy the post to make it work on my Nova.

Comments about S" Bowl Rest :

The S curve on this thing is flipped the wrong way from what I would expect to be able to use for inboard bowl turning... It is instead designed like an outboard curl rest! It would have been nicer if it could somehow be flipped over, but since it cannot, this turned out to be a waste of money for me. Even if you like the curve, there is no set screw to lock it on the post. When pushing into the thing, I have had the rest start to turn and unscrew from the post. Very frustrating and potentially dangerous. Tighten this thing very well and beware...

you need the post (1/2") as it does not come with the order and that is not clear in the online posting for this item.
