Product Information:

Basswood (Tilia americana) is fine, straight grain material with an even texture and little contrast between early and late wood. Creamy white in color and lighter in weight than the related European Lime. Fairly soft, preferred wood for carving. For the true woodworker, there is nothing more important than creating a project from the right wood stock. This micro-thin stock is cut to size from quality, kiln-dried stock. 100 percent clear and sanded on both sides. Dimensions are +/- 1/8". Grain runs with the longest dimension. Canada and USA.

  • 3/16" x 3" x 24"
  • Basswood

  • Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.

Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, while the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.

Thin Stock. The thin stock is cut to size from quality, kiln-dried stock. Dimensions are +/- 1/8" of size listed.

Carving and Turning Blocks. Blocks are sawn to +/- ΒΌ" of size listed.

Plywood. Sizes are nominal. Dimensions are +/- 1/8" of size listed.

  • Wood for Carvers - There are many wood species that make for a good carving project, but some are more difficult to work than others.
  • Relief Carve a Whimsical House - I love to carve whimsical scenes in wood, but hate the time it takes to prepare a relief carving for the detail stage using traditional methods.

    Comments about Basswood 3/16" x 3" x 24" :

I use both the basswood and white/clear pine in making plank on frame wood ship models. The white pine I received from my first Woodcraft order was superiod (great wood to work with). My second order contained heavily grained pine, which is not useful in model buidling. This recent order also contained heavy grained pine. When I order I have no option to only order the white/clear pine. It seems I get what's in stock. This is not workable. I need to find a reliable source of white pine where I know I will receive white pine in each order.
