Comments about Nova 4" Tool Rest :

The tool rest is covered with crinkly paint so my hand would not slide along the surface. Ok, I thought, just sand off the paint and it will be great. Unfortunately, the paint filled a fifty cent piece size hole in the casting. I had to grind down the face of the rest about 1/4" to eliminate the hole. Now the face is smooth and the tool rest does work great. It just took about an hour and a wornout 50 grit 4x24 sanding belt to get there. If I threw away the item as soon as it arrived and went to work instead, I would have earned enough to buy the worlds best tool rest. Unfortunately, who can tell the depth of a casting void until the bottom is reached. Will yours have this problem? No way to know what is under the paint/bondo.

Comments about Nova 4" Tool Rest :

You need this size tool rest for turning small pieces between centers otherwise you can't get the tool rest close enough to the piece. This should come with the lathe. Also a locking swivel collar makes you a much happier turner. That way the tool rest stays at the height you had it when you unlock it to pivot. It is really annoying to have to hold and pivot when you really only want to pivot. If I worked for Teknatool, I would make the small tool rest and swivel collar standard and make the faceplate an option.
